Annual General Meeting
The Commissioners Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday, 1st May 2008 at 7:00pm in the Boardroom, Town Hall, Derby Road, Peel. The Agenda is as follows:-

1. Certificate of Uncontested Election- To be read out by the Town Clerk
2. Declaration Book to be signed by successful candidates.
3. Appointment of Chairman for the municipal year commencing May 2008.
4. Appointment of Vice Chairman for the municipal year commencing May 2008.
5. Appointment of Lead Members and Members to outside bodies.
6. Approval as a correct record of the Minutes of the meeting held on 2 April 2008.
7. Matters Arising.
8. Employment Bill 2008- Dept of Trade & Industry consultation exercise.
9. Street Traders Licence- Request from Mr & Mrs Hill-Venning
10. Planning Applications for comment.
11. Planning Decisions notified

Local Authority Election - 15 May 2008
Notice has just been received of one more withdrawal from the local authority election to be held in Peel on Thursday, 15 May 2008. Mr Davison has withdrawn his nomination which leaves an election between Mr Raymond Karl Harmer of 6 Oak Road, Peel and Alan Glyn Jones of 16 Derby Road, Peel. The Polling Station will be open for voters from 8:00am to 8:00pm.

Commissioners Election - 15 May 2008
The nomination deadline date for the vacant seat on Peel Town Commissioners was Friday, 18 April 2008. Following withdrawals and objections the following candidates will contest an election for the one vacant seat on Thursday, 15 May 2008. The Polling Station will be the Corrin Hall, Derby Road, Peel and will be open for voters from 8:00am to 8:00pm

1. Mr. Ian Greig DAVISON The Eaves, 26 Derby Road, Peel (Company Managing Director)
2. Mr. Raymond Karl HARMER 6 Oak Road, Peel (Business Analyst)
3. Mr. Alan Glyn JONES 16 Derby Road, Peel (Retired Police Officer)

 
National Year of Reading
On Saturday 26th April libraries across the Island will be gearing up to receive new library joiners as part of the National Year of Reading's ground-breaking national initiative "Join a Library Day". This is part of the scheme organized by the Isle of Man Libraries Group, under the banner "Island Libraries - working together", and "Love your Local Library". The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to join their local library and just see what is on offer. Residents and non residents are welcome to join the Ward Library.

The Library has the latest best-selling books, classic books, audio books and Internet access. There is a very popular junior section, and in the Sophia Morrison Reference Room, an excellent local history collection. Local libraries are the anchor points for community life, and if you are new to an area, job seeking or just wanting to find out more about local issues, then the Ward Library is the place to start.

Commissioners Election
The recent election advert resulted in eight Commissioners being returned in a non contested election. There remains one vacancy which has been re-advertised in the local press. The last date for nominations is Friday, 18th April 2008 at 5:00pm. If there is to be a contested election it will take place on Thursday, 15th May 2008.

The Commissioners returned for a four year term commencing 1st May 2008 are:-

Peel Conservation Area - proposed changes
The Commissioners would be pleased to hear the views of Peel residents about the proposal to reduce the size of the Peel Conservation Area. The current and proposed areas can viewed on this map; the black outline represents the current area, and the red outline the new area. The proposed changes can be seen more clearly on this close-up version of the map. Both maps have large file sizes best suited to a broadband connection.
